I've bought a reel from every big name fly fishing brand to use and abuse and without a doubt the hatch has won. My reels are often bouncing in the bottom of an aluminum boat and soaking in saltwater. I don't recommend treating them like that but they are tools to be used. I've had numerous tibor reels break and seize. With mixed results from other brands. However the hatch iconics are still going strong. The drag is smooth and the finishes are tough. I especially love the metal handle as most fly reels still have plastic ones. The drag systems appear to remain completely water tight and they are fishing the same as the day I bought them. I own 2 five weight reels that I use on 9 weight rods for inshore applications from redfish to tarpon. This is the reel to get and I will stand by it.

Very well made as well as a beautiful design. This reel is bomber and handles all comers. The mid arbor allows for extra backing for saltwater or extra room for light spey rigs. Very smooth and dependable drag system.
