Ryan Heitz

Ryan cannot remember a day that fishing wasn’t on his mind. His parents tell him that he was given a rod at the age of four and that was that. His dad had to become a fishing fanatic because that is all his son wanted to do. When he was eleven he was captivated watching a fly fisherman catching trout after trout, and told his dad that he would really like to try fly fishing. By 15 his Berkley 6 weight had caught every species Pacific Salmon, steelhead, and just about every finned fish he could get to with his bicycle.

Now, in his 30’s, after 5 years of university and a teaching degree, Ryan has gone back to his first passion and is managing one of Canada’s premier fly shops, Michael & Young Fly Fishing Supplies. He is an accomplished spey and single hand caster and instructor, fly tyer, and dedicated fisherman. When he is not at work you will find him with a fly rod, whether 6’6” 2 weight or 16’ 10 weight, in hand looking for something with fins. Sea Run Bull Trout, Whitefish, Cutthroat, Steelhead, Carp, Rainbows, Coho, “Pike Minnow”….they are all awesome.
