Paul McDonald

At 5 years old, Paul started his fishing career in New Zealand. With his father, he would spend his days chasing anything with fins. Forty years later, his passion for fly fishing continues to thrive.

Paul now guides over 250 days a year and has an extensive list of respected long term clients. These clients have been influenced by Paul’s natural enthusiasm and knowledge of fishing.

He is now a full time guide, living in beautiful Oregon with his wife and four boys (two of which are dogs). Paul guides Southern Oregon’s moody, technical waters for eight months of the year. He then returns to New Zealand where he specializes in backcountry sightfishing of trophy browns and rainbow trout. In addition, he is one of the few select guides at New Zealand’s prestigious, world class Poronui Lodge.

In addition to a successful guiding career, Paul has competed and traveled the world with fish being his focus. He has competed in New Zealand lake fishing competitions where he has secured first place and runner up national titles. Along with these competitions, he has hooked bonefish in the Cook Islands, smallmouth bass in the midwest, and sea-run browns in Argentina.

You won’t likely see Paul on one of his days off. He will be deep in the backcountry exploring new waters and looking for what might be around the next corner.
