Growing up on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State instilled a passion for fly fishing. Prowling the beaches in search of sea run cutthroat and salmon sparked a life long quest to chase salt water gamefish on the fly…with both feet on terra firma whenever possible. Inevitably, my imagination turned to warmer waters and exotic species. With visions of big fish and cold Pacificos in my head I packed my old Toyota pickup and drove south until I ran out of land.

I made my first trip down the Baja Peninsula in 1995, starting an obsession which quickly became the focus of my life. By 2000 I was guiding fly anglers at the East Cape and was spending several months a year in Baja. In 2006 I moved to Mexico full time to completely devote myself to mastering the art of hunting grande roosterfish from shore, and exploring southern Baja’s diverse fisheries: from the beaches of the East Cape to the offshore banks at Magdalena Bay. Well into my second decade of guiding in Baja I’m still learning and having more fun than ever sharing what I’ve learned with anglers from around the world.

As angler and guide, I’ve been credited with four IGFA world records in Baja waters. Including three world record roosterfish, all of which were taken sight casting from shore with my original fly pattern, the Mona Lisa.
