“Remember, this is supposed to be fun.” That’s the first thing out of my mouth to every client, wether we are chasing steelhead on my home river here in Oregon, skating flies on our camp trips in Washington, or swinging flies to Kings in Alaska. I try and utilize different approaches when teaching to best match each individuals ability to learn. Fly fishing can be as difficult or as complicated as you’d like to make it. I choose to keep it simple, and break down different techniques and casts so when my people are off fishing on their own they can easily refer back to the time spent with me and continue to elevate their game and skill set.
