Capt. Fernando Montalvo Noguera

Being born and raised on such a special island as Puerto Rico, Capt. Fernando always felt a strong connection to the ocean. From a young age, he was drawn to the water, spending as much time as possible exploring the island’s coast and learning about the fish that surrounded his home. It was when he picked up a fly rod for the first time, however, that he truly found his calling. He never put it down.

Fly fishing opened Fernando’s eyes to a side of Puerto Rico he had never experienced before. It gave him a new way to explore his home waters and pursue the incredible diversity of gamefish found throughout the island. Today, he runs a program unlike any other on the main island of Puerto Rico, operating a skiff and specializing in fly fishing for tarpon, permit, snook and bonefish. His goal is to showcase the incredible potential Puerto Rico holds as a saltwater fly-fishing destination while sharing the fishery he loves with anglers from around the world.

As a young guide, Fernando is constantly exploring new water and pushing the limits of what can be accomplished with a fly rod in Puerto Rico. He hopes to help put his island home on the map as a premier destination for saltwater fly fishing while encouraging others to experience and appreciate its unique fisheries. Being selected for the Hatch Pro Program is an incredible honor, and Fernando is proud to represent a brand that shares his passion for the sport, the equipment, and the pursuit of unforgettable fish.
