At Hatch, we’ve created a backing material that has the touch and feel of Dacron combined with the strength and diameter of Gel Spun in a single 8 braid PE line for use in all fly fishing applications.
Now available in Red, Black, White, Blue, and Orange.

Excellent backing… thin diameter rated at 68#’s… I have it on numerous 6, 7, and 8wt reels.

I am a Die Hard Permit angler, and have just finished my 100th trip to Belize to fly fish Permit exclusively. The picture is my fishing guide and myself landing a life time total of 401 permit on the fly. All of them have been subdued with Hatch Plus 7 for 9 wt rod and Hatch Plus 9 reel for 10 wt rod. On my Plus 7 mid arbor I put all 400 yards of your backing, and was able to use 9wt fly line. Recently, I decided to fish with only 10 wt rods, and on the Plus 7 with 10 wt line, I have to be careful to level wind so it doesn't bunch up and get stuck. I decided to substitute the Plus 7 with the Plus 9. So, now I have both 10 wt rods with Plus 9 reels....subperb smooth drag.

It is thin, strong, and smooth, and comes in lots of colors. It is the best

If you’re looking for a backing this is what you need. Got this after replacing my rio backing. This was easy to spool myself because hatch was able to show you how many herds (meters) you were putting on the reel. Plus the 68 pound is the best you can get. If you’re thinking about spending the extra money just buy it so you don’t have to replace it a couple years down the road.

Best backing made, but very difficult to use with a line winder with the packaging in 100 yard increments on attached spools. Would prefer one larger 400 yard spool.

I first balked at the price, but this is a great example of “you get what you pay for”. This is the best backing on the market by far. I put it on all my steelhead and salmon reels, and now have started using it on small trout reels, too, where space is limited. I have stopped using all other backing over the past 1-2 years.

Beware of the dye used on the backing line. I bought ten two hundred meter rolls a couple years ago because I was so impressed with it after fishing Molokia. I passed a roll to each of my fishing buddies that travel the world fishing. They all had horrible stories of the wet line leeching the colour all over everything in there bag. A couple of guys it made a real mess of there travel bags and gear. I put it on three reels and all my lines are orange/red now after one use, including my reel case.
I emailed Hatch and got an apology. Not to impressed, that said it’s a great line and I love my Hatch reels both for Steelhead in BC Canada and Bonefish in Hawaii.
Respectfully, Brian

Use it on my 3-5 weight reels -- where space is a premium ... and use for 6-9 weight reels for the strength and the extra yardage ... so far so good.
