Bought my first Hatch reel, a second hand Monsoon, around 2008. Since then I’ve continued to buy their reels. I’m really impressed with the Ivonic. I didn’t think they could improve on the Gen 2 Finatic, but it seems they have. These reels come with the best warranty and customer service in the industry. You may balk at the price, but it will last you a lifetime and if it doesn’t, Hatch will make it right.

I’ve always had an eye for high end American fly reels - Abel and Bauer being particular favourites. However Hatch reels simply leave the competition standing. Not only are Hatch reels aesthetically beautiful, the unique design and flawless finish are what really sets them apart. They are not readily available here in the UK which is a shame as I’ve simply got to have another….and another….!

You would think a brand new $650 reel would survive a 2’ drop from a tail gate, but you would be wrong. That is all it took for this reel’s frame to bend like a cheap tent, rendering it useless. As a former Finatic owner, the “new and improved” Iconic appears to be lightweight flimsy junk. Very disappointed in Hatch’s latest offering.

Wow what a smooth reel. Was worth the wait to get this Iconic. All the articles I have read are spot on. Very smooth and great drag. This is my first Hatch reel and will not be the last. The 4 weight is great with my 9 ft 5 weight rod. Keep up the great work. The reel is alot quieter than my other reels . Looks to be sealed to keep dirt or sand out. Great design.
