Capt. Rick Matney

Rick was born and raised in North Eastern Washington on the banks of the Columbia River near Canada where his passion for fly fishing began. Growing up fishing for trout and steelhead led him to Montana State University in Bozeman where he resides today as a trout guide in the summer months. His sense of adventure and high energy attitude led him to start Chrome Chasers, a steelhead lodge in Southeast Alaska. During the off season Rick can be found somewhere between Hawaii, Mexico, Central America and the Pacific Northwest.
When not fishing Rick enjoys archery hunting, skiing and calling coyotes. During the winter you might catch a glimpse of him chest deep in cold smoke in the Bridger Mountains or behind the glass of a custom .204.
Rick’s obsession for big brown trout often leads him to throw flies the size of most sailfish flies to search out the leviathan. Not many people think of a 9 wt as a trout rod, but that’s the first stick he grabs on the way out the door. He has worked with Airflo fly lines in the development of new lines and is also a member of Echo Fly Rods and Airflo Fly lines Prostaffs.
